Trends in video marketing on social sites.

The way in which videos are presented to viewers, especially on social sites, has changed dramatically in recent years. It’s not enough to create a standard, generalized video. Your videos have to be short (sometimes upto maximum 15 seconds even!) and you need to grab the viewer’s attention and take them on a journey.

Steve Jobs was an expert at storytelling during offline events and online on videos. Rather than saying why Apple computers were so great, he used stories about overcoming adversity, development and inspiration to connect with individual people listening to him offline and online. In turn, he gained a huge following and was one of the most successful businessmen of all time.

So why does offline and especially online storytelling with social story videos generate such a good response?

Why are social story videos so powerful?

Do you know why storytelling and especially social story video marketing works? Because it talks to the viewer on a personal, human level. It’s one of the main things people want –  to feel connected to a person and to a personal brand.

It helps the viewer to connect with you, by sharing a real and authentic experience. It helps you to connect and empathize with a problem the viewer might have, then highlight how the solution you are offereing can help solve that problem.

‘Yes, but what about facts’you might say. Well, facts can be powerful, but the truth is these days’ customers and potential customers of your solutions don’t want to be bogged down by facts. They are much more likely to remember a message in a video on social media, if the social video is presented as a story, rather than a list of facts.

This doesn’t mean you should eliminate facts altogether – you just need to be more creative with how you present them.

Storytelling is one of the best ways to get the most from your social video marketing. When done correctly, it won’t just make your video memorable, it will encourage action and discussion. And it will build a positive relationship between the viewer and yourself!
